Brown Hospitals within the MediSys Health Network are suing three of the region's largest insurers under the U.S. Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.
Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center cited Health Insurance Plan of Greater New York (HIP-NY) for alleged abuses in their utilization review process. Michael Brown, counsel for the hospital, was interviewed regarding these alleged unfair coverage practices and violations of federal racketeering laws The case received coverage from The Houston Chronicle (4/18/07), The Associated Press (4/17/07), The New York Times (4/14/07), Business Insurance (4/13/07), Crain's NY (4/12/07), Crain's HealthPulse (4/13/07), HealthLaw 360 (4/13/07), and National Underwriter (4/12/07).
In a similar case, Mr. Brown is also representing Jamaica Hospital Medical Center and Flushing Hospital Medical Center in their case against Oxford Health Insurance Company of NY, United HealthCare and their corporate parent, United Health Group, Inc.
